What is an Ibiza-style villa?
Ibiza-style architecture
In terms of architecture, an Ibiza-style house is characterised by the use of natural materials and the creation of open spaces and natural light. The following features are typical of Ibiza-style houses:
- Minimalist: the architectural style is minimalist, focusing on comfort and tranquillity.
- Square layout: Ibiza-style houses are often square in shape, with rounded corners (traditional style) or sharp corners (modern style).
- Open-plan layouts: open-plan layouts, such as living rooms flowing into the dining room and kitchen, are characteristic of Ibiza-style houses.
- Natural materials: materials such as wood, natural stone, reed and clay are widely used in construction and interior design.
- Large windows: large windows and sliding doors provide plenty of natural light and a connection between the different areas of the house.
- Outdoor spaces: the houses often have terraces or verandas where you can enjoy the Spanish outdoor lifestyle.
- Swimming pools: many Ibiza-style homes feature an outdoor swimming pool, sometimes integrated into the garden or on the terrace.
- Plants and flowers: the design of the Ibiza home often takes planting into account, such as palm trees or bougainvilleas.
Ibiza-style interior
The term ‘Ibiza style’ is also commonly used in interior design. As with the architecture, the aim here is to give the home a light, airy feel, using plenty of white, earth tones and natural materials such as wood and rattan. The décor is usually minimalist and focused on comfort, with comfortable furniture, cushions and cosy lighting. In an Ibiza-style home, you often see details typical of the so-called bohemian or hippie style, such as macramé and other handmade accessories.
In general, both the architecture and interior styling of Ibiza-style homes are designed to create a relaxed atmosphere, which fits perfectly with the island’s sunny climate. Something that is, of course, easy to replicate in a home on the Costa Blanca.

The Costa Blanca: the Ibiza of the mainland?
The Costa Blanca is a popular region thanks to its beautiful beaches, crystal-clear sea and wonderful climate. These features are reminiscent of the island of Ibiza. There are also plenty of bars, clubs and restaurants where you can enjoy the nightlife, as well as numerous shops and entertainment venues. “Costa Blanca, the mainland’s Ibiza” is actually an expression used to describe the lively and festive atmosphere of the Costa Blanca, but the physical characteristics are also very similar. Moreover, you’ll see a lot of the Ibiza architectural style reflected in the villas on the Costa Blanca, a theme that is often carried through into the interiors.

Reasons to buy a villa on the Costa Blanca rather than in Ibiza
There are several reasons to buy a house on the Costa Blanca rather than in Ibiza:
- Lower costs: buying a house on the Costa Blanca is usually cheaper than in Ibiza, and the cost of eating out and going out is often lower too.
- Easier to reach: the Costa Blanca is easier to reach than Ibiza. In theory, you could even drive there from the Netherlands! You can also easily take a day trip by car from the Costa Blanca, for example on a city break to Valencia.
- Quieter: the Costa Blanca has a slightly quieter atmosphere than Ibiza, but you can still easily find the bustling and lively side of life.
- Better weather: the weather on the Costa Blanca is usually slightly better than in Ibiza, with less rain and more sunshine throughout the year. The main difference is particularly noticeable in winter. The Costa Blanca has a much more consistent and milder winter climate than Ibiza.
- Variety of activities: although both regions have a lot to offer, the Costa Blanca is rich in a variety of activities and attractions, including walking, cycling, golf and the various villages and towns, each with their own culture.
So, to sum up: you get more for your money, enjoy a good climate all year round and can easily choose between peace and quiet or the hustle and bustle. What’s more, you can fly to Ibiza from Valencia in under 25 minutes, or take the ferry from Denia in just a few hours.
