Things to do in Javea: discover the most beautiful bays and viewpoints

Things to do in Javea - discover the most beautiful calas and viewpoints

As an real estate agent in Spain, you get to visit the most beautiful locations. We see bustling cities, picturesque villages and beautiful Costa’s. One of the Costa’s where we as real estate agents are often to be found is the Costa Blanca, which can be divided into north and south. The north is characterized by lots of greenery, hills and valleys and also certainly the beautiful bays, ‘calas’. Many of the most beautiful coves in the Costa Blanca can be found in Javea.

One of the most beautiful places on the Costa Blanca: Javea

One place we really don’t want to keep from you is Javea (in Valencian: Xabia). Of course for its great climate, one of the plus points the Costa Blanca is known for. In addition, because it has everything: a beautiful old town, a lively port, a beautiful sandy beach, delicious restaurants and on top of that it is surrounded by other nice towns, villages and sights. These include Moraira, Altea, the Jalon Valley and Denia.

Furthermore, Javea has a number of beautiful bays and viewpoints that are in no way inferior to such famous regions as the Costa Brava, Ibiza and Mallorca. From Denia you also have a boat connection to the Balearic Islands, which include Ibiza and Mallorca.

We also go over the viewpoints one by one, so you know what to expect and can possibly make a selection of viewpoints you definitely want to see.

1. Cabo de San Antonio

This viewpoint is located next to the Cabo de San Antonio lighthouse. Due to the height of this point, it gives a magnificent view of the bay of Javea. In the distance, you can also see for a large part the mountain contours of the province of Alicante. This point can be reached by car, but you could also walk this from the port of Javea or from the Cova Tallada.

2. Los Molinos de la Plana

3. Mirador Punta del Arenal

This viewpoint is not high, it is at sea level, but the view is still very wide. It can be found on the southern part of the popular sandy Arenal beach in Javea. From here you can see the old fish farms from Roman times and you can see the Cabo de San Antonio with lighthouse (see no. 1).

4. Sequia de la Noria

This viewpoint is also very close to the coast. Of particular note is the limestone rock in which a canal has been carved and digged. This is a large canal in the local sandstone grove”toscar”, which was used in Roman times to allow the salt water to enter more easily, forming a salt zone known as the “Saladar” (salt marsh). This is where Javea’s famous Tosca stone comes from.

5. Mirador Cala Blanca

This viewpoint is located next to the cove of the same name. In the past, this cove was used to catch fish, by stretching a net from the land and attaching it to boats. Cala Blanca is one of the most visited beaches in Javea in high season. Therefore, this viewpoint is also perfect to combine with a day at the beach.

6. Mirador Caletes

In turn, this viewpoint can easily be combined with viewpoint 5. If you follow the path along the edge of the cliff for about 200 meters, you will reach this mirador from where you can admire the entire coastline. An impressive view, because from here the coast of Javea gets higher, creating a wilder coastline.

Javea Portichol

7. Cruz del Portichol

One of the most iconic spots on this route. This is because from here you have a great view of the island Isla del Portichol. This is a massive round island with an area of 8.3 hectares. It is now uninhabited, but has a history with inhabitants; important remains from Roman times have been found to prove this.

In low season it is possible to park near this viewpoint, however, in high season this can be a challenge. You can then choose to start this point from Arenal beach, or combine it with points 5 and/or 6.

8. Mirador de la Isla

The above-mentioned viewpoint Cruz del Portichol is one of Javea’s most visited vantage points, but what is also a stunning point is this Mirador de la Isla. From here you have a stunning view of the island of Portichol, combined with the bay Cala Barraca, where you can also see one of Javea’s most photographed doors.

9. Mirador de la Falzia

The view only gets better, as La Falzia is a lot higher again. You have a panoramic view from here that stretches from Cabo de San Antonio in the north to Cabo Negro, which is also the next viewpoint in this list.

10. Cabo Negro

From here, you can see almost the entire Javea coastline: Cabo del Prim, Cabo de San Antonio, Mount Montgó, La Isla del Portichol and several of Javea’s bays. It can be reached by car, but bear in mind there is an uneven path to it.

11. Cabo de la Nao

The easternmost point on the coast of the Valencian region, which means it is also the closest to Ibiza. On a clear day, you can even see Ibiza from here! A perfect place for a stop and since you can also find restaurants, where you can enjoy a meal with a view.

12. Los Pesqueros

Freely translated: the fishermen, referring to the special fishing activities that took place here. Fishermen climbed down these cliffs with ladders and ropes, supporting themselves on platforms to catch fish. A dangerous branch of sport. Just look for the ladders on the cliff.

Cala Ambollo
Cala Ambolo

13. Punta de Ambolo

Punta de Ambolo is one of the small rocky points that form the coastline of Javea. It lies south of Cabo de la Nao and between the two is Cala Ambolo. This cove is unfortunately closed to the public due to the danger of landslides. At this point, in addition to an old watchtower from the 16th century, we find a fantastic viewpoint on both sides: Cabo de la Nao to the north and the coastline of Javea and Benitachell to the south.

14. Castillo de la Granadella

This viewpoint is located next to the road that leads to Cala Granadella. Of course, you should definitely visit the cala; it has been declared one of the most beautiful calas in Spain! From the viewpoint you can see the small bay between Punta de Ambolo and Morro del Castell. On the rock you can see the ruins of the Castillo de la Granadella, believed to have been destroyed during Napoleon’s war.

15. Parc Forestal De La Granadella

Although it also contains the name Granadella, this point is just a bit further out of the way. Still, it is worth putting it on your list of places to visit in Javea. For example, you could pay this nature reserve a separate visit. The flora and fauna is characteristic of Parc Forestal Granadella. Among other things, rare orchids grow there and it is a good place for birdwatchers.
