Costa del Sol
The region has various names: popularly, the south of Spain is also called Andalusia. Especially when we talk about the white villages, the beautiful interior and the Golden Triangle (Seville-Cordoba-Malaga-Granada). This actually covers the entire state, or the autonomous region of ‘Andalucia’. The literal translation of the Costa del Sol is The Coast Of The Sun. By this we mainly mean the coastal region up to about half an hour inland. This is the province of Malaga, of which Malaga city is of course the capital.
Since this is still a coastal region of about 150 kilometers, we have divided it into two parts: the Costa del Sol East (east of the city of Malaga to Nerja) and the Costa del Sol West (from Malaga to a little beyond Estepona).
Good accessibility
From Malaga you are therefore always within an hour and fifteen minutes at your destination, in some cases just a few minutes. Malaga airport is also easily accessible from the Netherlands and Belgium, all year round. Malaga also has a train connection with some seaside resorts such as Torremolinos and Fuengirola. You will often want to rent a car on site to further explore the beautiful surroundings.
Good climate
Another advantage is of course the beautiful climate all year round. This Costa is not called the Costa del Sol for nothing. With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, it is wonderful to enjoy. The further south, the warmer, so it is always warm, especially in the summer months. But also in winter there are wonderful days with a temperature around 20 degrees. Outside the summer months, the region is therefore ideally suited for fun city trips. You can play golf on one of the beautiful golf courses, but how about a day of skiing? With the Sierra Nevada nearby, you can easily alternate a day at the beach with a day in the snow.

“Tingelingeling”, the popular song of the Singer without a Name is probably still known to everyone… If you want you can find a lot of “Tingelingeling” here and look up the entertainment. This Costa is also known for the stories around Marbella and Puerto Banus, where “the rich and famous” spend their holidays and where you will find luxury shops and yachts. Where one person finds this liveliness wonderful, another seeks out the less touristy places and opts for the quieter seaside resorts or inland.
Properties on the Costa del Sol
As mentioned, the offer on the Costa del Sol is very diverse. At the moment, new construction is particularly popular, resulting in a wide range of beautiful new construction projects. From luxury apartments with all facilities, presented as a “lifestyle concept” to modern new-build villas in good locations and with beautiful (sea) views. Of course there are also many existing apartments, sometimes slightly dated. Of course it is also possible to completely or partially renovate it and adapt it to your own taste.
Inland you will also find more rustic finca style homes, where you usually have more land. Here too there is a good offer, whereby you often have to take into account that nothing can usually be added or expanded on rural houses, so you will have to make do with what is available. Above all, we always advise everyone to have all documents checked by a local independent lawyer who checks as standard whether the house has been built legally, the correct title papers are present and there are no more debts on it. Don’t worry about this, this will be checked automatically by a good lawyer. Within our team we can always put you in touch with a Dutch-speaking lawyer, who is of course located in Spain.
How to get started buying a property on the Costa Del Sol
If you are looking for a property in the Costa del Sol, it is good to first consider what exactly you are looking for and for what purpose? Are you looking for a holiday home or do you want to live here (semi) permanently? Do you want a good investment and also for rental return? If we know what you want, we can advise you more specifically about the possibilities and also the places that fit well with your wishes. Location is important, of course. Come and experience for yourself whether the place/region appeals to you. Don’t just rely on the stories, because they are always personal and colored. Fortunately, everyone is different and everyone finds different things important. Do you want peace and space or bustle and cosiness? Do you want to be within walking distance of the beach or does it not matter? Once we have a first selection of homes, we can start preparing a program to see these homes. Gradually we can then zoom in further on those homes that appeal.
It is important to know that the housing market in Spain is different. We have almost no exclusivity here in Spain, which means that in principle we can show all homes.
